Just remember that the most common treatment as well as preventive care for menopause is: hormone replacement therapy given orally. Hence, the mnemonic:

ORAL HORMONES (REPLACED)

The definition, diagnosis, symptoms and treatment of menopause can all be found in the words ORAL HORMONES. The second part of the mnemonic, replaced, is optional.

Ovarian failure
Reproductive problems (Vaginal atrophy, dryness, pain during intercourse)
Atherosclerosis (increased risk for cardiovascular problems)
Low libido
Hot flushes (Vasomotor instability)
Osteoporosis
Raloxifene (Alternative treatment for patients who are contraindicated for hormone replacement therapy)
Mood Swings (Irritability)
Older
No menses (absent for at least 1 year)
Estradiol test (If estradiol <30 pg/ml with increased FSH levels then start hormone replacement therapy)
Steroids (estrogen, progestin, androgen-- methyl testosterone or oral DHEA-sulfate if needed)
Risedronate (prevention/treatment for post-menopausal osteoporosis)
Estrogen (Estrogen therapy can eliminated symptoms but it is associated with increased risk of endometrial cancer).
Progestin (opposes endometrial hyperplasia and can optimize benefit:risk ratio of steroid therapy).
Loss of cognitive function (Dementia)
Alendronate (prevention/treatment for post-menopausal osteoporosis)
Calcitonin (Treatment option for Osteoporosis)
Estrogen (Reemphasize the importance of the estrogen hormone)
