Causes
of hypertension (HTN):
Essential HTN, pheochromocytoma, aortic dissection, aortic
coarctation, renal artery stenosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, improper fitting
blood pressure cuff,
clonidine withdrawal, Beta-blocker withdrawal, oral contraceptive, NSAIDS,
steroids, tarolimus,
cyclosporine, erythropoientin, cocaine overdose, methylphenidate (Ritalin),
pseudoephedrine
(Afrin, Sudafed), MAO inhibitors {[tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine (Nardil)]
in patients taking
tyramine that may be found in certain cheeses, alcohols, and selected foods}
malignant HTN,
renovascular HTN, hyperthyroidism, parathyroid disease, sleep apnea, Cushing’s
syndrome,
hyperaldosteronism, glomerulonephritis, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, thrombotic
thrombocytopenic
purpura (TTP).
